Disaster Preparedness for Community SRH Clinics / Preparación para Desastres en Clínicas Comunitarias de Salud Sexual y Reproductiva
Community health facilities, including sexual and reproductive health clinics, are cornerstones of care and aid for people facing emergencies. According to the World Health Organization, “A resilient health facility is safe, secure and sustainable, and will continue to function in emergency or disaster situations” (WHO 2019). However, community clinic staff often lack time and training for preventive maintenance, leaving their facilities vulnerable to damage from hurricanes and other climate hazards.

Join International Planned Parenthood Federation Western Hemisphere Region (IPPFWHR), Engineers Without Borders USA (EWB-USA), and the Asociación Dominicana Probienestar de la Familia (PROFAMILIA) for a discussion of how sexual and reproductive health facilities can integrate disaster preparedness into their facilities maintenance plans. We will introduce a new tool, the Disaster Preparedness and Post-Disaster Checklists, which the partners designed and tested over the past year as part of a joint initiative with support from the Clara Lionel Foundation. Drawing on a variety of preparedness resources, the Checklists help SRH facilities managers maximize preparation for an imminent natural disaster and assess facilities for a safe reopening.

This webinar will be in English and Spanish, with interpretation available.
